The Sacred Valley

(DH writes) Unfortunately both Lyra and Lucas were ill last night and this morning Lucas didn't feel up to the trip, so Lyra and I set off with the Genners to see the Sacred Valley. Shelagh stayed at the hostel to look after Lucas.

First stop, Pisaq market - Sunday was the vegetable market.

Next, the wonderful terraces of Pisaq. We were dropped off at the top of the road and slowly walked around the ruins, picking up the car lower down. We soon lost the crowds.. The views were staggering.

Some sections were exciting with near vertical drops.

The terraces really were excellent.

A great path, which even passed through a tunnel at one point

Overlooking the ceremonial site with views over 3 valleys

Exploring the ruins.

In the afternoon we visited Ollantaytambo

Fantastic views on the way to Chinchero

Local people drying potatoes on the grass.

The roof paintings inside the church here were really excellent - a shame no photography was allowed.
