The noise is relentless. Independence Day looms (6 August) and all the schools, colleges, clubs, institutions, individuals and their pets seem to be practising drumming and marching. All day and most of the evening!
We spent the day in La Paz, exploring new areas and trying to avoid the main thoroughfare. The traffic on the central avenue, El Prado, is chaotic and the fumes really are bad here. Petrol is less than 3 Bolivianos litre (30p) and is fully leaded of course. Pedestrians wander through the traffic, much of which is made up of buses, minibuses and taxis.
El Prado - with a central island at this point which makes crossing possible....
There are thousands of these old buses
Lots of interesting wiring
The zebras are a bit of an institution .... walking around the city trying to raise awareness / educate pedestrians to use the zebra crossings. Here they are outside the Presidential Palace.
Being attacked by pigeons outside the cathedral.
Traditional dress for ladies is a 'bowler' hat with a shawl and a voluminous skirt with lots of petticoats.
A very 'Spanish' cobbled street, with houses rising up the side of the mountain in the background.
The toilet seat enjoyed lunch, but still felt empty inside.
