(Lyra writes) It was extremely hot (nice!), as Coroico is only at 1600m above sea level in the heart of the Yungas. This height is perfect for growing Coca plants-it is also perfect for Mosquitos!!¡¡ We counted our bites over breakfast and Lucas won at 28 closely followed by dad with 22. For some strange reason mum managed to get no bites for the first time ever..
There were cultivated areas for Coca plants on the very steep slopes.
We started off by going for a walk to 3 different waterfalls.
This was one of the waterfalls we walked to.
Dad and I climbed up the side of one before getting stuck and having to come down...
There were lots of streams with logs across them.
We all had a good giggle about this idea of Paradise...(although it was a nice place really.)
As we left 'Paradise' on the new road to La Paz we suddenly halted. The road was closed for essential repairs to clear the road of fallen rocks. The locals seemed very used to this as they all got out and laid picnic blankets on the shaded road.
After about an hour we were allowed to set off again....Mum said it was like the wacky races as the drivers jostled for position.
Thunder and lightening greeted us on our return to La Paz....
