Off to Puno, Peru on the bus from Copacabana this morning. After about 30 mins we reached the border between Bolivia and Peru. We had to get off the bus and firstly go to the immigration office on the Bolivian side to get 'stamped out' and then walk about 300m (changing some money at a stall along the way!) across the border to the Peruvian immigration office to get 'stamped in'.
It was amazingly simple and hassle free especially compared to airports. No bags were checked, no-one was searched just a very quick goodbye and hello!
Then back on the bus for another 2 hrs before reaching Puno.
Puno is quite a large town on the northern shore of Lake Titicaca. It dates back centuries ago when it was an important port and close to the silver & gold mines, but now it's mostly a tourist town used as a base to see the floating islands of Uros.
Poor dad was not well so we left him with the toilet seat for company while we had a look about.
The cathedral, dating back to 1657, was huge and filled a large section of the main square
The main 'tourist' street, full of shops, cafes and restaurants was paved and traffic free - a rare treat!
And a rather strange sight of people sitting on a very small pavement with typewriters apparently filling in forms for local people.
