(Lyra writes) Today we drove down what is nick-named death road...It's real name is the most dangerous road in the world! It was officially the main road to Coroico until the 'New road' opened in 2006 and took 11 years to build, so until then everyone had to drive down the one vehicle width, rough stone track with no barriers, the side of which, plummeted down hundreds of meters - certain death to those who slide...
There were lots of crosses down the road to show where people had died...I can see where the nickname came from...
We walked down the road for about 5 km, through the cloud forest. The drop was so big that we stood well away from the edge hoping the ground wouldn't crumble under us!!!
It was amazing to see the difference in the dramatic drop as we travelled along the road.
Mum squealed in the van as we slowly descended down the road, she couldn't bear to look over the edge at the death defying drop below.
Huge tree ferns loomed over the path.
After an exciting but slightly scary day, we arrived in Coroico, where, from our balcony, we could see a delightful looking pool...
Lucas and I relaxed in the sun after our swim.
