With Lucas fully (?) recovered, we took another tour with the Genners. This time we headed out to see Moray - a stunning Inca site which is thought to be part ceremonial and part experimental agriculture . However, it looks like a wonderful amphitheatre!
.... It is believed the Incas raised plants here for transplanting to other sites or experimented with the growing conditions for various crops (seeds and remains of plants usually found at much lower altitudes have been found here)
The zig zags are steps up the stone faces of the terraces.
The surrounding mountains - typically wonderful in this part of Peru
Next we visited the salt pans of salinas - still in use after more than 400 years. Water percolates through the mountains down through a trapped underground reserve of salt, resulting in a salt water spring......
The cell like structure of the salt 'lakes' from the valley side, a long way above
Lyra stops for a rest. It is quite a surreal landscape
Henry explores off piste.
