Toucans at last ! 9th July

(Lucas writes) Today was a brilliant day. We woke up at 5.30 am and trekked through the forest to a viewing platform before breakfast. The platform was 40 m high and the tree it was in was 65 m tall. We climbed to the top. It was damp and foggy, but you could see out over the top of the forest. Rodrigo our guide played a recording of birds and we waited. After a while we actually saw 3 toucans. I have always wanted to see a toucan so this was amazing. The toucans were called many banded toucans because they had a striped belly. We also saw a crimson crested woodpecker, a swallow tailed kite and a big bird that the local people call a stinky turkey. We also saw bullet ants ( one of the deadly 60!). If they bite you it hurts for more than 24 hours. Here I am at the top. On the way up I was the first to spot a tree frog. It was very hard to see because of the camouflage.

After breakfast we went for a long trek through the forest. We did another long trek in the afternoon. You see loads of insects and different plants.

This was a big climber.

This is a ruby poisonous dart frog. They are very small. We also saw black caiman which are very dangerous if they have young/ eggs.

We saw blue headed parrots, a black tamarind monkey, popcorn butterfly, and another tarantula ( another deadly 60). It was a very good day! These are thorns of a wild papaya tree on my head. Dad said I was a little devil!
