Back to Quito and round about

We've spent the last few days back in Quito and the surrounding area. It is nice to be back in shorts and sandals- it is in the high 20's here. We spent most of one morning lounging around in the park, where there was an art exhibition and a market.

We visited Otovalo, where there is a large craft market. Lyra showed her future business acumen and bartered for a bag, then haggled the price of a shawl down from 8 dollars to 4.

We visited the Reserva Ecologica Cotacachi- Cayapas and the lagoona Cuicocha an old volcano - the crater is now filled with water which is boiling in places! Here we are admiring the view, whilst Lyra admires her new bag.

There are lots of volcanoes around Quito..

You can spot some good raptors (although I have to admit this one was in a rescue centre)

We stopped on the equator to plant a foot in each hemisphere...

Shelagh has a long wait for shade, as she stops by a giant sundial on the equator.

At the end of a long day.....
